The memorial, High Street, Colsterworth

Welcome to the
Festival of Remembrance (CFoR)

Within the village of Colsterworth, we hold an annual Festival of Remembrance at our memorial. Our village comes together to remember those who have fallen within WWI, WWII & recent conflicts.

We normally welcome all residents from our village and surrounding villages from the Parish to come along and show support, but sadly, COVID-19 restrictions have forced a number of changes to the format of this year’s village Remembrance event.

remember them."

How our event will run

Please see and read our guidelines that we will be adhering to below from the UK Government, Local County Council, Royal British Legion, COVID-19 information (RBL), and Test & Trace requirements.
CFoR are working closely with the local County Council, Parish Council and Sgt Clive Farmer of the Lincolnshire Police Constabulary to provide guidance and develop preparations for this upcoming event.

What is different?

Social distancing has prevented the church being used for the service and instead this year the memorial and church services will be combined into one event for a gathering around the war memorial. It is anticipated that the combined events will last for approximately thirty minutes and people attending are asked to be in place by 10:40 am.

Direction from the Government, local County Council, Lincolnshire Constabulary, and the Royal British Legion on road closures for Remembrance Day events, means that the usual practice of closing the road is not allowed in order to discourage public gatherings.  This means we have limited space around the war memorial and the event must be limited to a maximum of thirty people, to comply with the law.

The event will be separated into two areas. The official attendees, comprising members of the Armed Forces, veterans and other people actively participating in the event such as wreath laying, will be asked to stand behind the memorial along the wall. Test and Trace will be conducted for the people around the war memorial.

People are welcome to attend, however, they will be required to stand on the other side of the road in order that we keep the official number attending below the Government mandated limit of thirty people. (please see the Government guidelines on their website by clicking here). People will need to adhere to social distancing and the rule of six regulations. Attendees should be particularly vigilant for vehicles who may be travelling through the village and unaware of the event.

We kindly ask that observers allow space for residents and passes by to have access. No-one is to stand in the road to view the ceremony as this is a road traffic offence and we have been informed that Lincolnshire Police will be patrolling the area.

Watch it on our Live Stream

It is understood that some people who would normally attend the Remembrance Ceremony, may wish to stay away this year because of social distancing or shielding concerns. In order that they may participate in the event in a more distanced way, the event will be live streamed on the CFoR Facebook page

We would like to remind those attending that social distancing measures will be in force throughout the event and to kindly comply with the instructions given by the stewards on the day. Test and Trace will also be exercised in order to comply with Government instructions. Thank you once again.

We apologise to the vast majority of our guests who will not be able to attend the ceremony this year in person, but circumstances beyond our control have forced the changes to this year’s event. Remembrance Day is an opportunity to remember those that have given the ultimate sacrifice for their country and CFoR recognises it’s importance to the local Parish community. We have tried to run the event for everyone in a safe and sensible manner. We appreciate your patience.

You are warmly invited to join us on Facebook on our CFoR page at 10.40am Sunday 8th November 2020.

How can I be involved?

Places to stand at the war memorial ceremony are available. Click here to apply. Priority will be given to active service participants (Military, Veterans, Wreath Layers & Speakers).

A small remembrance garden has been placed near the War Memorial in which people may place remembrance crosses or personal tributes. The garden is open now and of course tributes may be laid at any time up to Wednesday 11th November. Tributes may be placed on the day, but please wait until the ceremony is complete, or place them early. In order to assist with their fund raising in what is a very difficult year, people are kindly encouraged to purchase crosses from the Royal British Legion.
